The new X/O Condominiums (Is X/O for hugs and kisses?) in Chicago’s South Loop, just north of the Prairie Avenue Historic District (kind of ironic given the modern design), have always conjured up images of alien invasions to me. Lo and behold, I opened up last Sunday’s Chicago Tribune and there is a full page ad for X/O with two flying saucers hovering above illustrations of the two towers. A caption above the first flying saucer reads, “What on earth is it?” to which the other flying saucer replies, “I don’t know but I want one”. Very interesting glass, tilted (for lack of a better description) looking buildings. X/O is designed by Lucien Lagrange and developed by Kargil Development Partners LLC, a joint partnership of New York based Jerry Karlik and Chicago based Keith Giles. The buildings will be located on Prairie Avenue between 16th and 18th streets and will feature a 44 story tower with 275 condos, a 34 story tower with 202 units, and 10 townhouses. Pre-sales will start this November. You can also find some great commentary on the project at Yo and the Chicagoist.
