Astor Tower

November 15th, 2007 by Jeff · 3 Comments

A client of mine just finished a stunning renovation of their 1 bed, 1 bath condo at Astor Tower in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood.  Another unit in the building was recently profiled in Chicago Magazine.  Did they get the building name wrong?  Anyway, the building boasts great views, a very unique in look, and a rich history.  Some quick building trivia…

  • Designed by Bertrand Goldberg who also designed Marina City.
  • Originally a hotel, the Beatles stayed there and even conducted a press conference there in 1966.
  • The basement level housed the famous restaurant, Maxim’s de Paris, owned by the architects wife.

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit and snap some pictures of the building and completed renovation.

I can provide you with additional background information on the Astor Tower Hotel. I was one of the original employees when it opened

    Hi Michael,

I am interested in knowing more about the Astor Tower Hotel and the surrounding area (E. Goethe & N Ritchie) during the early 1960’s. I can be reached at bg_lorenyahoo.com

    Thanks
    Joe

I heard that this is also where The Monkees stayed when they were on their promo tour for their television series.
