So not only will about 3500 new condo units spread across 13 new buildings come on the market in Streeterville within the next two years but it looks like the planned buildings are creating a buzz in the architectural community. According to an article in the Trib, the new buildings will be ultra-modern and feature glass and metal over bricks and concrete. It seems that “bland” buildings are dead. Many of the units feature floor to ceiling glass windows which is supposed to create a more livable environment woth more light and better views. It is reported that one force influencing contemporary design comes from the mayor himself. While it is reported that he didn’t like contemporaty architecture before, he is now a fan. Maybe because he now resides in one if the cities newest luxury contemporary buildings with a vew of the bean. Why Streeterville? It seems as if this is the only place with vacant sites near the lake and river. Not to mention that Streeterville is in the center of everything with great city views. Early reports are that the pre-sale market is very strong. Keep an eye open to see if this trend continues.
